A Study of the Effects of Visual & Performing Arts in Healthcare

Research has shown that the introduction of live music into healthcare enhances the quality of life of patients, improves communication, empathy and understanding of patients’ needs, reduces stress and the perception of pain and often leads to a reduction in the level of medication required or shortens length of stay in hospital. This research, which was carried out by Dr Rosalia Staricoff with Arts Council support, is important to our work as it validates what we know to be true from our own experience and the feedback we receive every day from our beneficiaries.
