Creating Joy Through Live Music
"Serguei rapidly built a rapport with his audience, encouraging them to use their imagination. The concert was a real cultural trip and at the end we felt as though we had been all over the world.”

Sir Thomas Allen, MiH’s President, kindly donated a singing lesson to the auction held at our Royal Gala Dinner at Haberdasher’s Hall. The lucky bidder, Andrew Tusa, was amazed at what he learnt during that lesson and said;
“I had a simply amazing time. Tom was kindness itself and had me making some sounds which took me very much by surprise. It was, of course, extraordinary to hear him illustrating how it should be done!”
What an experience to have a lesson from one of the world’s greatest singers!

Music in Hospitals NW is grateful to the Rotary Club of Warrington for once again supporting our concerts in the region. Pictured are club president Jim Melville and MiH NW Development Manager Sid Richards receiving a cheque for £1,000 at the club’s Charter Dinner. MiH NW were just one of the many beneficiaries of funds raised at the club’s annual Oktoberfest Beer Festival.

MiH staff enjoyed a great evening of networking at the Rank Fellowship Charities Evening on 2nd November. The event took place at the fantastic Inner Temple Hall and featured a wonderful mix of guests including charities, Rank Fellows and Rank Foundation Trustees.
Thank you to Tim Young, Director of The Rank Foundation School Leadership Award and the Rank Fellowship, for inviting us to this fascinating evening which has introduced us to many useful new contacts.

We are thrilled to announce that Katie Derham has agreed to become a Vice President of Music in Hospitals. Katie is passionate about the power of live music and we all welcome her to MiH.

The weekend of the 24th and 25th September 2011 proved a busy one for MiH NW. Two concerts were staged at Marple URC as part of this year’s Marple Festival. On the Saturday, The Adrianne Wininsky Quartet performed a programme of Shostakovitch and Beethoven. The audience were entranced by the concert as Adrianne (cello), Despina Reid (violin), Dewi Tudor Jones (violin) and Helen Temperley (viola) gave a truly masterful performance.
On the Sunday, the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra performed a striking and beautiful concert which included Lilburn and Mozart and a piece by Adrienne Spilsbury, the orchestra’s lead violinist. In addition Zoe Milton-Brown, Soprano, sang a wonderful solo.
Thank you so much to all the musicians involved and as well as to those who came to the concerts and basked in the warmth and sparkle!

Music in Hospitals Busking Competition

As part of Marple Festival 2011, MiH NW ran a Busking Competition during Marple’s auspicious Food and Drink Day in the town centre. We had many buskers performing throughout the day and all musical tastes were catered for - from classical cello through to the Hungarian cello drum with fiddle, blues guitar, folk, and acapella inbetween! Some of the performers were MiH musicians keen to support the charity in their spare time. The winners were The Glendale Family who received their £50 cash prize from Frank Blanchard, Festival Committee Member.

Glendale Family and Friends presents...

The Glendale Family organised a fantastic evening of music, song and spoken word at Telford’s Warehouse in Chester on Thursday 8th September. All the musicians performed free of charge in aid of MiH and provided an extremely entertaining evening. Many thanks to Chris and Blaise Ingram and Maria Yuen for working so hard towards making this such a great night.

Guitarists from all walks of life bedazzled and delighted the crowds at the third Didsbury Charity Guitar Trail on Sunday 24th July. Twenty eight buskers lined the meandering pathways of Fletcher Moss Park in sun soaked Didsbury, collecting money for Music in Hospitals.
This year £550 was raised towards our work in the North West region. Our thanks to Peter Gidman, MiH North West Committee member, for being the brains and catalyst behind this fantastic yearly event.

'Congratulations' and 'Thank You' to our fantastic MiH team of runners!

There was a fantastic turnout at the Music in Hospitals Recital on 11th September 2010 at All Saints Church, Marple. Over 100 people attended to listen to X-tet, a recorder quartet based in Manchester followed by cellist, Adrianne Wininsky with Jamie Thompson on piano. They soothed and wowed the audience in equal measures. Nearly £600 was made at the event, which was held on the first day of Marple Festival fortnight. Thanks to all who attended, Marple Festival Committee for their support and All Saints Church for lending us their beautiful church for the afternoon, free of charge.
