Creating Joy Through Live Music
“One lady was thrilled when the Welsh National Anthem was played especially for her and one man was nearly in tears as his wife responded to the entertainment. Another relative was overjoyed to see her husband out of bed and in a wheelchair and smiling for the first time since his stroke.”

What a great way to kick off Christmas! Four piece band, Ghost Writers, won the exciting Battle of the Bands Competition organised by Fender Musical Instruments Europe (FMIE) which took place at The Crow’s Nest in East Grinstead this week. The evening was held in aid of Music in Hospitals, Fender's Charity of the Year 2010.
The Crow’s Nest was rocked to the rafters by seven bands who were vying for musical supremacy. Paul Flynn from Music in Hospitals, who was on the panel of judges, said “Judging was not easy due to the high standard of the bands but in the end Ghost Writers fully deserved the title of Fender/Music in Hospitals Band of the Year. “
The event was organised and run by staff from Fender who are fully supporting Music in Hospitals, particularly since its work has a direct affinity with the core of their business.
Diana Greenman, Chief Executive of Music in Hospitals said “This has been an exciting evening for us all and many congratulations to Ghost Writers. Music can be a powerful tool and Music in Hospitals’ live music concerts help to promote a more positive experience of healthcare, bringing long term benefits to those learning to live with illness and disability. We are so grateful to Fender for supporting us by arranging this brilliant event and we are all looking forward to working closely with them during the coming year.”

A concert in aid of Music in Hospitals took place on Saturday 28th November at Emmanuel Church in Didsbury. The wonderful Manchester Recorder Orchestra, under the direction of David Walsh and Ian Chesters, performed a range of pieces including Greig’s Peer Gynt Suite and a rag by Scott Joplin. The orchestra were joined by violinist Karen Stanhope for a piece especially written for recorder orchestra. The concert raised over £450.00 for Music in Hospitals. A big thankyou to the MRO for their kind and generous support of our work in the North West!

The Ever Hopefuls - Roger Grover, Sue Grover, Chris Thomas and Hilary Thomas
Earlier this week, over 70 keen golfers chipped and putted their way across Woking Golf Course in aid of Music in Hospitals. A wonderful time was had by all! Congratulations to the winning team - 'The Ever Hopefuls!'
We are most grateful to everyone who supported our Charity Golf Tournament and to Woking Golf Club for hosting the day. Our warmest thanks go to Committee Member, Peter Worlidge and Sports Masters International, for pulling the day together!

The audience were singing, clapping and dancing in the aisles to the exuberant sounds from the ACM Gospel Choir who were runners up in the BBC TV series Last Choir Standing. The church echoed to the sounds of “Higher & Higher”, “Stand By Me” and “Something Inside So Strong” encouraging the audience to join them in raising the church roof with the gusto.
A capella group Treblemakers welcomed everyone appropriately with “Wilkommen” from the musical Cabaret, violinist Orpheus Papafilippou followed with a magical rendition of Vaughan Williams “The Lark Ascending” and Krysia Mansfield brought an exciting first half to a close with a medley of her own homage to celebrity chef Fanny Craddock.
Diana Greenman, Chief Executive of Music in Hospitals says "It was a wonderful evening of entertainment for all the family. Each year Music in Hospitals has to raise funds to cover the costs of providing live music for adults and children with all kinds of illness and disability throughout the UK in hospitals, hospices, nursing & residential homes and special needs schools. The monies raised from this special evening will help us to provide even more concerts for those in care. We are so grateful to all the artistes taking part for making the concert such an uplifting and special evening for us all."

Music in Hospitals’ concert, “Spring into Music”, which took place on the 6th May 2009, at St Paul’s Church (The Actors’ Church), Covent Garden, was a fantastic success.
We were thrilled that our Vice President, Dame Felicity Lott was joined by Isla St Clair and four groups of Music in Hospitals’ musicians; Heavy Metal – Tuba and percussion ensemble, Gunther & Chinara – violin and piano, Keziah Thomas – harp and the Kai Hoffman Trio – jazz and swing trio.
A magical evening of music from the world of classics, jazz and folk was enjoyed by all those present and the evening was expertly hosted by Frank Renton.
The concert also gave us the opportunity to showcase the diversity of our artists’ musical skills and I am so grateful to everyone who make the evening such a happy occasion. Comments made by members of the audience at the end of the concert included:
----------
Congratulations to the MiH team, Andrew, Chetan, John, Paul and Will, on achieving excellent times in their London Marathon Runs.
CHETAN MISTRY - 3hrs 26 mins
WILL COOPER-MITCHELL - 4hrs 32 mins
PAUL GREENEP - 4hrs 33 mins
JOHNNY DAVIES - 4hrs 40 mins
ANDREW ENJUANES - 4 hrs 44 mins
It was a fantastic day with the sun shining and everyone cheering the runners along – what an atmosphere! The weather was far kinder to the spectators than the runners, as it was a rather warm day to be covering such a distance.
A BIG WELL DONE to the MiH team and all their fellow runners!
