"This was a wonderful experience. There was a lot of energy in the room and we couldn’t stop the ladies dancing! One lady danced for the first time in over ten years. Our most positive concert to-date!"
Music in Hospitals engages experienced professional musicians who are able to communicate the joy and therapeutic benefits of live music to audiences of all ages in healthcare settings. We are looking for musicians from a variety of musical cultures who are able to demonstrate varied and engaging programmes to suit the often wide ranging musical tastes of our audiences.
Performing at a Music in Hospitals concert is a very different experience to a public engagement and is both rewarding and challenging. Artists generally work amongst or close to their audience involving and interacting with individuals. Our musicians often feed back on the moving and powerful responses that they evoke during Music in Hospitals concerts, but these concerts can also present challenges that would not be found at public performances such as unscheduled pill rounds and tea trolleys!
Concerts take place across the UK and are generally held during the daytime. Music in Hospitals typically matches musicians up with local venues although occasionally we ask musicians to travel further a field or to go on tours. We offer concerts on a freelance basis and are able to pay a modest fee of £41 per artist for groups of up to four musicians and £48 for soloists per concert plus basic expenses and accommodation where appropriate.
Musicians wishing to work for Music in Hospitals are asked initially to complete an application form and then to attend an informal audition. If you would like to apply please download an application form here, or contact us for further information.
We regret that we cannot offer an audition to every enquirer in view of the number of applications that we receive.
